How Healthy Start Works
Healthy Start Coalitions are non-profit organizations dedicated to improving the health of pregnant women and babies in a community.

The state's 33 Coalitions are partnerships made up of local public and private medical professionals, hospitals, schools, charities, social services agencies, the United Way, the March of Dimes and individuals. Coalition members will work together to identify and resolve local health problems that affect pregnant women and their families

The safest way for your baby to sleep is ALONE, on his or her BACK, in a CRIB.

If a blanket is used, it should be light-weight and tucked under the mattress at the bottom and sides of the crib. Place baby in the center of the crib mattress with the feet at the foot of the crib and place the blanket so it reaches no higher than baby’s chest.

Say Yes to Screening

A Healthy Start Screening is a confidential form that you fill out in your doctor’s office or hospital that could give you access to free services to help you have and keep a healthy baby. Eligibility is based on those assessments, not on financial factors. Say YES and a Healthy Start nurse will contact you.

Dining Out For Babies
November 19th, 2010

The mission of the Escambia County Healthy Start Coalition is to reduce the infant mortality rate and increase infant birth weights. The Coalition carries out this mission through coalition activities and direct services provided to mothers and babies at risk for a poor birth outcome. In 2009, Healthy Start services were provided to over 5,000 mothers and babies free of charge.

Despite the services available, many families need a safe crib to put their newborn to sleep.  In 2009, 12 infants in our region lost their life to unsafe sleeping quarters.  Our Beds for Babies has provided over 1,000 cribs since 2001.

Thank you for considering our 1st Annual Dining Out event! As a champion for babies, your support funds a critical program that purchases cribs for needy families.  All funds are used to purchase cribs and bedding.
